If you wish to become a volunteer or paid grooming operator for any club within the UCSR you must follow these steps:
- Contact your club grooming coordinator (who is appointed by the UCSR District Board based on recommendations from the club Presidents). A complete this may be found here.
- Club Grooming Coordinators will discuss their requirements, operations, and expectations with you. You should be prepared to discuss your experience, training, and availability.
- Club Grooming Coordinators will recommend or not recommend potential Grooming Operators to the District Grooming Coordinator.
- Each Groomer Operator (new or seasoned, paid or volunteer) must complete a new UCSR Groomer Operator Employment Application each year. A recommendation from the Club Grooming Coord will be required.
- District Grooming Coordinator, with support from the District Manager, will approve or not approve new or returning Grooming Operators.
- Groomer Operators must provide the following documentation to support their employee file and payroll requirements:
- UCSR Application;
- Copy of Glass G or M Driver’s License (or higher);
- TD1;
- TD1ON ;
- Direct Funds Transfer (DFT) info for payroll; and
- UCSR Employee Agreement (to be provided by UCSR).
- Groomer Operators will complete various training packages. Previous training and certification will be accepted. Training includes:
- Snow-Groomer Online Training conducted by UCSR through OFSC;
- Snow-Groomer Practical Training conducted by your Club Grooming Coordinator;
- Grooming Equipment Operation and Maintenance Refresher Training conducted by your Club Grooming Coordinator;
- OFSC Log sheets and Pre/Post Season Inspections Refresher Training conducted by your Club Grooming Coordinator;
- Health and Safety Awareness Training conducted by UCSR;
- WHMIS Overview Refresher Training conducted by UCSR;
- Health and Safety Policies and Safe Operating Procedures conducted by UCSR;
- Risk Management Refresher Training conducted by your Club Grooming Coordinator or UCSR;
- Trail Guideline Refresher Training conducted by your Club Grooming Coordinator or UCSR;
- Signage Guideline Refresher Training conducted by your Club Grooming Coordinator or UCSR;
- Annual Refresher conducted by UCSR;
- Optional Chainsaw Course conducted by UCSR;
- First Aid Training (optional as needed); and
- Fire Extinguisher Training (optional as needed).
The Annual Refesher will be offered in an in-person session, an online zoom sesson, and in a self-study format. New and seasoned operators will be required to complete one of these sessions. Dates and locations will be confirmed in the fall 2023.
Notes:
(1) District Manager will complete the Driver License Abstracts
(2) OFSC Groomer Operator training is valid for 5 years.
(3) WHMIS and Health & Safety training completed in 2020/2021 is valid for 3 years. All those operators who completed the training last year are valid for this year
(4) OFSC Groomer Operator training is valid for 5 years.
(5) OFSC miscellaneous training completed online in 2020/2021 and onward will be accepted for 5 years. All those operators who completed the training last year are valid for this year
- Training Requirements – Previous training and certification will be accepted. If new or seasoned Groomer Operators do not have a valid certificate for the training listed, they must email training@ucsr.ca with the following information: First Name, Last Name, email, phone number and club so that training can be organized;
- OFSC Groomer Operator course. Valid for 5 years. Operators will be issued an individualized weblink for OFSC’s Snow-Groomer Online Training (Each weblink is only valid for the person it is issued to;
- WHMIS Overview training from Canada Safety Training Centre. Valid for 3 years. Login at https://www.canadasafetytraining.com/accountlogin.aspx
- Workplace Health and Safety from Canada Safety Training Centre. Valid for 3 years. Login at https://www.canadasafetytraining.com/accountlogin.aspx
